What is #RelayFirstLap?
#RelayFirstLap started with one volunteer’s vision to renew his commitment to Relay For Life at the beginning of the year and encouraged others to join him. Since then, Joe Gillette’s vision has spread globally and on January 10th Relayers worldwide will take their first lap of the year together.
What are we doing locally?
We invite everyone in the Erie and surrounding areas to take your first steps of the season with us on January 10 at the Millcreek Mall! Meet us at the Community Booth (in the main hallway outside JC Penney and across from Shoe Dept.) to get your game board. You will then take a lap, inside the warm and dry mall, visiting "stations" throughout the lap with volunteers from your Event Leadership Team providing treats and information on how impactful your Relay For Life involvement really is to those facing a cancer journey and their families. After visiting all the stations and completing your lap, bring your completed game board back to the community booth to be entered into a drawing for a cozy basket, ask any questions you may have and GET ANOTHER SCRABBLE TILE. That's right, every person you bring from your team that completes the lap will get another scrabble tile to use on event day.
We will have the stations set up until 11:30 so feel free to have your team meet up and take the lap together. In an effort to not overwhelm our volunteers at the stations, we will be doing rolling starts this year, once you are ready to go on the lap, you are free to do so at your own pace anytime between 10 and finishing at 11:30. We will be at the community booth until 1 pm.
So come on out and join us as we collectively recommit to helping end cancer as we know it, for everyone!
