In this workshop, we will explore how to cultivate clear, compassionate communication and deeper mutual understanding within non-monogamous relationships. We will begin by building a shared foundation for effective communication, examining the role of emotional intelligence in how we listen, speak, and respond, especially when conversations feel vulnerable, charged, or high-stakes. Attendees will learn the core principles of active listening and how to move beyond simply “waiting to respond” toward truly hearing and understanding one another. From there, we will explore what it means to intentionally create safer relational spaces: how to foster trust, reduce defensiveness, and support open dialogue without sacrificing boundaries or self-advocacy. Using Multiamory’s Triforce of Communication as a guiding framework, we will examine how honesty, compassion, and responsibility work together to support conversations that are both authentic and connective, even during moments of conflict or emotional intensity.
Throughout the workshop, attendees will practice practical communication skills, including reflective listening, emotional attunement, and values-aligned expression. We will also explore common communication breakdowns in non-monogamy and how to navigate misunderstandings with curiosity, accountability, and care rather than blame or withdrawal.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will leave with concrete tools for communicating more clearly, listening more deeply, and co-creating relational spaces where all parties feel seen, respected, and supported. These skills are designed to strengthen connection, reduce recurring conflict, and support healthier, more resilient non-monogamous relationships.
Doors open at 6:30pm. Workshop starts at 7pm.
The Relationship Foundations Series is designed to provide competency in core relationship skills that are necessary to maintain successful meaningful relationships. By identifying the most prominent friction points in the practice of transitioning and practicing non-monogamy, the series seeks to provide attendees with the knowledge and practical skills to avoid roadblocks, move through discomfort, and build thriving relationships.
