Daren Riedle, Wildlife Diversity Coordinator for the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, will discuss reintroduction of alligator snapping turtles in Kansas. Alligator snapping turtles have existed between 3 to 9 million years.
Now almost entirely extinct in Kansas, these ancient creatures will be placed in the Neosho River in southeast Kansas. It’s ironic that such a successful species is now on the verge of extinction from habitat destruction and overharvesting for meat.
Come visit with Daren at First UU to learn more about conservation of these turtles and how the reintroductions will be conducted.
We will have a potluck at 6:30 then Daren will start his talk at 7:30. Please bring a dish and your own tableware. No disposables, please.
