Reimagining the Ordinary

This hands-on workshop series invites participants to explore creative expression through found poetry, zine-making, and visual collage. Using everyday materials such as magazines, paper, and markers, participants will experiment with cutting, layering, writing, and reimagining to create original works. Designed for beginners and experienced creatives alike, the series encourages curiosity, play, and self-expression in a welcoming and inclusive environment. All materials are provided, and participants will leave each session with unique artwork and new creative skills.

Medium/Technique: Blackout Poetry & Collage Poetry

Theme: Transforming existing text into original poetry by finding new meaning through experimentation and creative play.

Medium/Technique: DIY Zine-Making

Theme: Creating handmade mini-publications to share stories, ideas, artwork, poetry, or personal interests through self-publishing.

Medium/Technique: Mixed-Media Paper Collage

Theme: Exploring composition, layering, and visual storytelling using found images, recycled materials, and everyday ephemera.

Yecid Ortega is a neurodivergent multidisciplinary artist and cultural archaeologist whose work represents the emergence of a singular voice from a lifelong engagement with the raw materials of expression. His art focuses on abstract poetry, experimental media and sound art. For over three decades, Ortega has worked in the interstitial spaces between sound (experimental noise), text (poetry and spoken word), and image (mixed media and brut art), amassing a vast and eclectic body of work that coalesces into public-facing practices.
