The Minneapolis Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery, established in 1858, is home to more than 27,000 entombed residents and at least 7 deer. Located on Lake Street, this beautiful green space is listed on the National Register of Historic Places with two notable buildings and a sea of cemetery markers. Come join Rethos, Northern Bedrock, and the Minneapolis Chapter of the Wounded Warriors Project for a class on gravestone cleaning, restoration, and repair.
Participants will hear about the history of this Minneapolis landmark as an unsegregated resting place for Pioneers, Soldiers, Paupers, and Politicians of all backgrounds from the keeper of the cemetery and the Board President of its active Friends Of group, Sue Hunter Weir.
This class is for history lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, masonry dorks, and anyone who wants to hang out in a cemetery during October! Half of the proceeds for this class will go to the cemetery to purchase a new headstone for one of the many unmarked graves of Minnesotans long passed. Wear comfy, closed-toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. This event will be rain or shine!
Tickets for this class are $60.
