Two-day workshop focusing on Regenerative Tourism at the University of Newcastle
About this Event

We are delighted to invite you to participate in a two-day workshop focusing on regenerative tourism, held at the University of Newcastle. The workshop will build on the project conducted in Samoa in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Samoan Tourism Authority and National University of Samoa. Our focus is on regenerative tourism, an innovative approach that embeds tourism activities within the social-ecological systems of tourism destinations. It emphasizes that long-term success in tourism can only be achieved when key players work together to sustain the environmental, socio-cultural, and economic resource bases of the industry.

The project in Samoa has highlighted the role of the resort sector in fostering regenerative tourism and demonstrated how community engagement can transform tourism practices into sustainable models. As tourism contributed significantly to Samoa’s economy pre-pandemic, and with increasing pressures from climate change and environmental degradation, these discussions are both timely and crucial.

This workshop embodies the University of Newcastle’s commitment to fostering sustainable and connected communities while promoting healthier living through environmentally responsible practices. We aim to create a platform for meaningful dialogue that will lead to actionable steps in developing regenerative tourism in our region and beyond.
