Regal - The American Black Woman is a melodic and poetic musical journey of the heroism of the black woman.
About this Event

Regal – The American Black Woman, A tribute to the lives and the heroism of women of color. “Regal The American Black Woman” tells the story of women who rose above slavery, poverty, rape, torture, and imprisonment to become one of the most resilient and celebrated heroines throughout history up to this vibrant 21st century.

This one woman show portrays the life of black women as slaves, abolitionists, activists, jazz singers, politicians, and matriarchs in America during the 17th century until now. The script does not dwell on the sensationalism of slavery as it pertained to the black woman but chooses, rather, to celebrate the whole woman and her royal lineage as Queen.

American Playwright/Performer Paula R. Amor shares her own story as a woman of color and the nation’s story of the many unsung and underrepresented women who have paved the way for her. This script also injects the tale of famous musical artists as well as some monumental speeches that changed the trajectory for women of color throughout history.

Paula shares in her own words, as she talks about the struggle to succeed in spite of the segregation of that time and the difficulties women experienced while singing from the cotton fields, the battle fields to the Nation's Capital with white allies by their side. Without pity for these women, this production shows you the daily slings and arrows that are a part of bigotry. This one woman show will share with you how women took complete responsibility for their lives, their choices, and their actions. Experience this melodic and poetic journey of evolution, resiliency and regalness that will live on forever.
