About this Event

The displacement of persons internationally has been occurring for many years. Agencies such as the UN Refugee Agency have been emerging, which started as a necessity to address the displacement of citizens that arose from the consequences of World War II. Global diversity is built on the movement of people, and it is important we know what is currently happening on an international scale so that we may prepare for future trends. Brandon will be discussing the current trends and experiences in refugee resettlement, how these trends are impacting Upstate SC, and the long-term trajectory of refugees in the United States. He will draw on his extensive experience of working with refugee resettlement to illustrate the international impacts of this ongoing issue.

Brandon Baughn has been the Director for World Relief Upstate SC since 2021, with over 15 years’ experience in international education and development. For the past six years he has worked in refugee education and resettlement in Washington, Jakarta, and South Carolina. Now in Greenville, Brandon holds a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Teachers College in International Education and Development. He has dedicated most of his career to studying and educating about refugee resettlement to contribute to finding new homes for those who have been displaced.
