About this Event

Conflict and tension can emerge when you least expect it in any situation. Perhaps you disagree with someone else’s opinion. Perhaps you are triggered because someone has said something (intentionally or unintentionally) that you find offensive. Although we tend to shy away from conflict, having the skills to work through that uncomfortable space and defuse tensions productively to promote mutual understanding and/or to find solutions can be very powerful.

In this special session for students of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne, we will explore tensions and conflict that may arise during workplace and learning contexts and reframe these tensions as a potentially productive engine for learning

Participants will learn a variety of conversational strategies to deescalate tensions and reframe dialogue in a productive way.

Speaker: Professor of Work Integrated Learning Research, Department of Medical Education & Collaborative Practice Centre, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences

Inquiries: Dr Abi Brooker, Academic Director Student Experience, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, [email protected].
