In her first Missoula show since her 2015 Missoula Art Museum exhibit, Renée Brown introduces a new body of work in Refraction. Brown continues to explore curiosities from the mineral world, transforming ceramic, optical resins and various unexpected media into sculptural compositions which would not rationally be found in nature. The exhibit brings her full circle to Clay Studio of Missoula, where Brown first came to Missoula as a long-term artist in residence in 2008. It was during this residency that she fell in love with Missoula and decided to join our community and put down roots.Growing up in Conyers Georgia, Renée spent many summer days playing in the creek bed next to her home. Clay has always been under her nails. In 2002 Brown left the Interior design field to pursue her MFA in Ceramics at the University of North Texas. Upon receiving her degree, she completed several artist residencies in Montana including: The Archie Bray Foundation, Red Lodge Clay Center, and The Clay Studio of Missoula. She now maintains a studio at her home in Missoula.
The exhibition will be on display at the Clay Studio of Missoula from October 4-26 with an opening on Friday October 4, from 5-8pm.
