About this Event
Following the racially and religiously motivated violence that we witnessed in the UK, many of you continue to be impacted by some of the harrowing images. We know that many of our employees continue feeling unsafe whilst others are left feeling a sense of uncertainty around how to offer support.
SCC and Nafsiyat have been able to arrange a reflective session for all employees in order to explore some of the feelings from this time. The space is intended to be inclusive, respectful and safe for all attendees. This session will be in addition to the sessions for our ethnically diverse staff Reflective sessions for ethnically diverse colleagues (sharepoint.com).
What is Nafsiyat ?
Nafsiyat is an intercultural therapy centre that provides facilitation and intercultural psychotherapy and counselling services to London's diverse religious, cultural, and ethnic communities. Their team is made up of experienced, fully qualified psychotherapists and counsellors from diverse backgrounds who are sensitive to the particular needs of cultural minority groups.
What can employees expect from the Nafsiyat sessions?
These reflective sessions provide a confidential space for colleagues to reflect on their experience at work and openly explore their racial and cultural identity – both within and outside the workplace. By engaging in reflective conversation and introspection, participants can deepen their understanding and start to make sense of the impact of racial trauma on their lives.
What these sessions are not
Whilst the sessions are facilitated by trained therapists, they are not intended to be therapy sessions. They provide a supported space to explore collective themes with participants being encouraged to take responsibility for their own wellbeing.
Sessions for Black colleagues
These sessions are for our Black colleagues only, in order to foster a place of safety due to shared experiences.
Sessions for Global Majority
These sessions are for all our Global Majority colleagues. Black colleagues may also sign up.
Sessions for other marginalised groups
We acknowledge that there are other groups experiencing marginalisation related to ethnicity and nationality who may wish to attend similar sessions. Such groups include, but are not limited to, those of Eastern European heritage, Gypsy, Roma, Traveller communities or Jewish heritage. If you are from one of these communities or are experiencing marginalisation due to your ethnicity and would like specific wellbeing support, please contact the Employee Experience Team ([email protected]).
How to book a Nafsiyat session
Please register for a session using Eventbrite and manually add the date into your calendar. The sessions are held online and a link for the meeting room will be sent to you nearer the day by Nafsiyat.
These sessions are popular and often oversubscribed. If you sign up and then can’t make it, please let us know so that someone else can take your place: [email protected].
Confidentiality
Anonymity and confidentiality are paramount to the success of these sessions. Nafsiyat will provide feedback on themes and issues that they believe will be helpful for the organisation to hear and heed, without sharing any of the content of the conversations.
***Based on feedback from staff, SCC are offering sessions for Black colleagues only and Ethnically diverse colleagues sessions. Nafsiyat note that Black would refer to Black people of African or Caribbean ancestry broadly speaking and Ethnically diverse (also termed as Global majority) to the collective population of people from the global south (non-European and non-white backgrounds) which will also include Black people. If you are not sure which group to attend or have any other questions about this, please contact the Employee Team().
