About the offer:
Your team has been invited to be part of a reflective practice pilot taking place in Plymouth. This offers you the opportunity to attend a monthly, peer-led reflective practice group made up of a mix of colleagues from various teams working with people who experience multiple disadvantage in the city. The teams are: PCC’s Community Connections Housing Solutions teams, PDAS, BCHA, Salvation Army Devonport Lifehouse, and Improving Lives Plymouth. These groups were set up in response to workforce feedback that access to reflective spaces to enhance practice and wellbeing are limited, and that people value having opportunities to mix, connect and build relationships with people from other teams and organisations.
What is reflective practice?
Reflective practice is different from other forms of management and supervision (e.g. line management, caseload management, clinical supervision or therapy). It offers space for staff to discuss:
- How we show up in our work… and the work shows up in us
- What is it about people/pieces of work that activate us
- What happens when we disconnect from our compassion
- Building collective wisdom and wellbeing through sharing ideas and knowledge.
Reflective practice groups will:
- Typically consist of 8-10 people, with a maximum of 12.
- Be led by two peers who have received training to hold reflective spaces that are trauma
- informed and solution focused.
- Be confidential (unless there is risk of harm, in which case a conversation would take place before sharing), psychologically as safe as possible, and have a trauma-informed lens, recognising that we all have responses to what happens to us which is influenced by our experiences and the world around us.
- Draw upon ‘Gibbs’ reflective cycle (see your email invitation).
- Where appropriate and when agreed with group members, key themes from across groups will be shared to enable leaders to address practical challenges that are affecting the work we do and staff wellbeing.
What if I am unable to get a place?
We will hold reserve lists for each the group so people can take up a space if anyone is no longer able to commit. If there is high demand and groups are being well received, we will explore additional peer facilitator training to create more reflective spaces.
