About this Event
This two-session creative writing workshop is designed to help participants engage in self-reflection and embrace self-love through poetry. Over two 2-hour sessions, participants will explore their inner thoughts and emotions, develop their unique voice, and craft poems that center on self-discovery and healing. With writing prompts, group discussions, and literary exercises, participants will dive deep into their relationship with themselves, examining both challenges and strengths through the power of words.
Objectives:
- Reflect on personal experiences to explore themes of self-love and self-acceptance.
- Understand and utilize literary devices commonly used in poetry to enhance self-expression.
- Develop a deeper connection to self through the act of writing and sharing.
- Build confidence in personal storytelling and poetic voice.
- Engage in active listening and supportive group discussion to foster community.
- Produce original poetry centered on self-reflection, healing, and self-love.

9/24 Session 1: Understanding Self through Reflection
This session focuses on deep self-reflection, guiding you through writing exercises that examine past experiences and current emotions. You will be encouraged to reflect on your personal journeys and identify moments where self-love was either nurtured or challenged. You will be introduced to key literary devices in poetry and practice incorporating them into your work.
10/1 Session 2: Embracing Self-Love Through Poetry
Building on the first session, this session focuses on writing poems that celebrate and affirm self-love. You will engage in group discussions about self-worth and identity, while deepening your understanding of poetic techniques. The goal is to leave with a poem that reflects personal growth, healing, and empowerment.
About JRose: Jasmine Rosario, better known as JRose is a Spoken Word Artist from Queens, NY. CEO of The Rose Garden Events. Executive Producer of The JRose Experience Show. Winner of the 2023 BRIC Brooklyn Grand Slam Finals, Nuyorican Poets Cafe Slam, Rockland Poets Slam, and the Poetic Affair Slam. Host of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe Monday Night Slam at the Bowery Poetry Club. Cast member of the Poetry Brothel. Poetry Society of New York Program Committee member. Has collaborated on events with Samsung, Boost Mobile, Dish Network, NYPD, Urban Stages, Poets & Writers Inc. and The New York Liberty. Freelance Teaching Artist and Mentor who works with youths all over the country including incarcerated women in Rikers Island.
