Reexaming the Role of the Guardian ad litem: Training, Trauma and Safety-Focused Decision Making
This free, in-person seminar focuses on identifying and assessing intimate partner violence through a trauma-informed, safety-centered approach using the SAFeR Framework. Attendees will learn how to distinguish abuse from commonly misapplied labels, and incorporate lived experiences into recommendations and reports. Through case studies, guided discussions, and practical exercises, participants will build skills in credibility assessment, report writing, and applying evidence-based practices in court settings.

- Guardian ad litem roles and responsibilities
- Responding to initmate partner violence in family court settings
- Vicarious and secondary trauma
- Introduction to the new SAFeR Enhanced model
Who Should Attend*:
Attorneys, GALs, Custody Evaluators, Child Welfare Workers, Advocates, Social Service Staff, Judges, Mental Health Providers
*Please note the afternoon session is only open to those responsible for serving as a Guardian ad litem, custody evaluator, or other party responsible for making recommendations to the court.
