About this Event

The Reentry Summit on Justice Involved Tribal Members will cover topics specific to indigenous people who are reentering society. The agenda will be updated periodically on Eventbrite. A complete breakfast and lunch will be included both days of the event. Please register only for yourself. Group registrations will not be processed. 9:00-10:00 Catherine Williams, Diné, Community Resource Liaison, Working Alternatives, Inc. What is an RRC and Mother Buffalo Reentry Group. Catherine will share innovative programs at a BOP contracted halfway house. The presentation covers how to effectively work with the indigenous population.

10:00-10:30 Mark Valdez, Coconino County Probation Officer II, Presentence Investigation - Cultural Competence: Working effectively and respectfully with people from tribal Nations

10:30-11:00 George Nolan, New Freedom Director of Marketing and Outreach - Drawing from both lived experience and professional leadership in Arizona’s reentry system, George will discuss how mentorship, recovery, employment, and community partnerships can break cycles of incarceration and create lasting opportunities for justice-involved individuals, including those from tribal communities.

3:15-3:45 Camie Rasband, Sr. Program Director of Housing & Homeless Services, Northern Arizona Catholic Charities Community Services - Unique challenges justice involved people face including limited housing inventory, transportation barriers, and reduced access to supportive services impact individuals exiting incarceration. An overview of reentry housing programs including Rapid Rehousing and Permanent Supportive Housing models and strategies for strengthening partnerships in rural communities to improve housing stability and reduce recidivism.
