Join The National WWII Museum for a screening of Dear Sirs in commemoration of POW/MIA Awareness Day. Ahead of the screening, filmmaker Mark Pedri will be joined by the Museum’s Senior Curator and Director of Curatorial Services Kim Guise to discuss the documentary.Despite spending nearly every day together for 10 years, it wasn’t until after his grandfather’s death that Pedri learned of his horrifying journey as a prisoner of war during World War II. After discovering an archive of photos, letters, and documents detailing his grandfather’s story, Pedri set out on bicycle 75 years later to retrace his footsteps across Germany and better understand the man who helped raise him.
Dear Sirs has brought veterans together with their families, friends, and communities to connect and feel seen. The film has been invited to screen at film festivals, museums, conferences, universities, high schools, cultural centers, and US military bases across the country and around the world. The US embassies in Berlin and Paris have sponsored screening tours of the film, and it was featured as the opening film for the 2022 GI Film Festival in San Diego, where it was awarded the prize for Best Documentary Feature.
