An opportunity to explore the craft of reed making for uilleann pipes with Belfast pipe maker Aaron O'Hagan. Reeds are the heart of the instrument and are necessary to making the sounds and bringing the uilleann pipes to life. This workshop will demonstrate methods of making reeds and how to maintain and make adjustments to them, to get the best from them. Cane will be supplied. Please bring along reed making tools, if you have them.
Aaron O’Hagan from Aughnamullan, Co. Antrim, is considered one of the foremost makers of reeds and instruments in Ireland. He is a multi-instrumentalist and instrument maker specialising in uilleann pipes and wooden flutes. A regular fixture on the vibrant Belfast traditional music scene as well as a highly sought after teacher of traditional Irish music, Aaron teaches regularly at the Glengormley School of Traditional Music.
Please note this afternoon event is not included with masterclasses spaces. As there are limited spaces available, booking is highly recommended.
