In this three week class, we will go over how to master the reduction printmaking technique, a means of using more than one color in your prints. Your instructor will guide you through the process from start to finish - planning, designing, registering, and creating a successful edition of 12 prints. We are going to make reduction prints using three different colors of ink. Some prior knowledge of printmaking is helpful, and it is encouraged that students take Intro to Printmaking before this class.
Week One
We will go over what reduction printing is, cut down our sheets of paper, create a design, and plan what colors we will be printing with. We will also prepare all of our papers for the reduction process and carve and print our first layer so that it can dry between classes.
Week Two
We will carve and print our second layer, talk about a few alternative reduction techniques, how inks layer, different tips and tricks to getting a successful print, and talk about some of the things that can go wrong and how to fix them.
Week Three
We will carve and print the final layer of ink, talk about some other fun printmaking techniques, edition our prints, and finish creating our reduction prints.
Cancellation Policy: We will refund 50% for any cancellation made at least eight days before the class. After 8 days, we are unable to provide refunds for any reason, including illness. If you cannot attend after registration, you are welcome to gift your tuition to a friend at no charge. We do not transfer tuition from one class to another.
