About this Event
Dive into the exciting world of reduction printmaking in this four-week workshop! This technique requires courage and commitment—once you carve away material for the next color, there's no going back. The result? Vibrant, layered prints with rich color interactions that are uniquely yours.
Working from a single block, you'll progressively carve and print multiple colors, building from light to dark. This methodical process teaches color theory, composition, and carving skills while creating dramatic multi-toned prints. Perfect for anyone ready to embrace the beautiful unpredictability of this addictive printmaking method.
Workshop Schedule: Four consecutive Friday evenings, 7:00-8:30 PM
Week 1 (Feb 6): Design and composition
Establish your image and plan your four-tone color strategy. Begin carving and print your first (lightest) color.
Week 2 (Feb 13): Second color layer
Continue carving, removing areas you want to preserve as your first color. Print your second tone.
Week 3 (Feb 20): Third color layer
Carve away more material and print your third color, watching your image emerge with depth and complexity.
Week 4 (Feb 27): Final layer
Carve and print your darkest tone, revealing the complete multi-layered image you've built over four weeks.
