In reduction printmaking, the artist creates a multi-color image from a single block, as layers are continuously printed and carved away, destroying the block in the process. The result is a beautiful edition of hand-pulled prints which can't be reproduced. Students should already have some experience with either linocut or woodcut printmaking, as this will be a fun but fast-paced class. An understanding of the basic concepts of relief carving and using oil-based printmaking inks is preferred. Feel free to reach out with questions if you'd like clarification! You will design, carve, and print a 6x8 inch linoleum block and leave with a small edition of unique prints. All supplies will be provided by the instructor. Students are encouraged to come with an idea or two for designs. We'll work together to modify them for the reduction process!FOR AGES 16+
