This captivating technique involves progressively cutting away your lino block, printing each layer on top of the last to build up a rich, multi-layered image. It's a thrilling process of planning, carving, and printing, where each step reveals new possibilities. How does it work?
- Start with the lightest color: Carve away areas that will not be printed in this first layer.
- Print the first layer: Ink your block and print it onto your paper.
- Carve again: Cut away more of the block to reveal the areas for your next color.
- Print the second layer: Ink with your new color and print it over the first layer.
- Repeat: Continue carving and printing each subsequent layer, working from light to dark, until your final image emerges. Why is Reduction Linocut so special?
