About this Event

RedBird Theater Company invites you to join us as we prepare to take flight!

Theater draws people together, sparks conversation, creates possibilities, changes minds, touches hearts, and explores the very essence of human existence. We are taken on a journey. We travel through time and cultures. We see the world through someone else’s eyes. We recognize universal struggles, defeats, joys, and triumphs. That journey - tragic or amusing, abstract or realistic - is always illuminating.

About Us:

The founders of RedBird Theater Company (David Berberian, Derrick Ivey, and Jeri Lynn Schulke) share a combined 75+ years of theater and arts experience. While perhaps best known to audiences as actors, we have also collaborated with many regional arts organizations in various aspects of theater-making and support: producing, designing, directing, building, organizing, teaching, marketing, and fundraising.

Our Mission:

RedBird Theater Company brings inclusive and accessible programming to Durham and the greater Triangle region. We curate the stories we tell to reflect our times, engage our audience, and challenge our community. We create a safe space where North Carolina's artists are supported professionally and fairly compensated while sharing their craft with their community.

Why “RedBird”?

Our name springs from the desire to create opportunities for North Carolina theater artists to practice and share our craft in our home community. While this NC-centric focus brings to mind our state bird, the cardinal, the less specific “RedBird” is more poetic, inclusive, and fitting. “Red” evokes passion, courage, and life force. “Bird” pairs these qualities with building a home (nest), fostering growth (egg), daring to soar (flight), and speaking truth (song).

I did not come into this world

to be comforted.

I came, like red bird, to sing.

— Mary Oliver “I Will Try”
