Red River Readers Book Club reads and discusses a variety of fiction and nonfiction selections. To celebrate One Book One Parish, we will discuss this year’s selection, The Thread Collectors by Allyson Richman and Shaunna J. Edwards. The Thread Collectors tells the story of two women, Stella and Lilly of vastly different backgrounds, one from New Orleans and the other of New York, find themselves bound by a common thread – Hope for freedom from bondage and reunion of their loved ones. Use of repurposed threads help create maps for the ones feeling the South. Two musicians, William and Jacob meet in the Union army and become fast friends. Their plight is to be free of sufferings brought by fellow man and the war, return to their woman and play their music that lift their spirits and give each soldier hope beyond the war.
