About this Event

SEEDS of Healing (SOH) will host the 4th Red Ribbon Event on December 4th at the Cameron Art Museum. SOH will collaborate once again with the LGBTQ Center of the Cape Fear Coast to present blocks of the AIDS Memorial Quilt throughout various locations in Wilmington, NC over a 2 week period starting November 28th at the AIDS Memorial Quilt Reception and Community Remembrance in recognition of World AIDS Day to bring awareness to the ongoing epidemic, its impact on marginalized populations, our community at large, and to help remove the associated stigma of HIV/AIDS. 

The Red Ribbon Event resonates our community collaborative message to "ThinkRedILM”.

The 2021 Red Ribbon Event Keynote speaker is Ms. Alicia Diggs.

Alicia Diggs is the CEO and Founder of "I Will Live". Ms. Diggs became an HIV/AIDS Activist, Educator, and Speaker in 2004. Her goal is to help the community understand the importance of STD and STI prevention, advocating against stigma and discrimination, knowing your HIV status by getting tested as well as living healthy and productive lives through empowerment, and education.

Alicia has spoken for various organizations who provide services for persons living with HIV in North Carolina. She is a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA), REPRIEVE Community Advisory Board and Publications Committee, a North Carolina Leader for Black AIDS Institute's Black Treatment Advocates Network (BTAN), the North Carolina State Lead for the Positive Women's Network-USA, PLWH Caucus, Wake Forest Baptist Health ANCHOR Study Community Advisory Board, HIV Prevention Community Advisory Council (HPCAP), National Community Advisory Board (NCAB) for the Women’s Interagency HIV Study (WIHS), SisterLove 2020 Leading Women’s Society, and a participant of “I’m Still Surviving” a living women’s history of HIV/AIDS. She has appeared on several news and radio stations and BETs Wrap It Up Campaign.

Ms. Diggs is a native of Philadelphia, PA but resides in North Carolina. She has a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, a master’s degree in Public Health and has completed doctoral courses for a PhD in Public Health. Ms. Diggs currently works for the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Center for AIDS Research (UNC-CFAR) as the Manager for the Office of Community Engagement.

In person attendees will enjoy live music, view the AIDS Memorial Quilts, and receive free admission stickers to galleries ($10 value for non-CAM members) to include the Wilmington United States Colored Troops Public Sculpture Project and other exhibitions on display. Hors d'oeuvres will be served. Cash bar available.
