Red Cedar Weaving Workshop
About this Event
We’re excited to announce our second annual Summer Workshop and to welcome back Ali and Bella Casey of Red Cedar Woman. Join us on Wednesday, August 12, from 2:00–4:00 PM for an engaging, hands-on workshop celebrating the traditional uses of coastal red cedar. Discover its cultural significance, learn traditional techniques, and create your own cedar piece to take home.
Daughters of Coast Salish artist and cultural educator Jessica Silvey, Ali and Bella are keepers of traditional teachings and skilled weavers. In this workshop, they will guide participants in working with red cedar, offering insights into the cultural significance, spiritual care, and intergenerational knowledge that surrounds this sacred practice.
Participants will:
- Weave a small piece using traditional techniques
- Learn cultural protocols and teachings related to red cedar
- Connect with others through shared reflection and creation
