Both in person and on-line:First Star Recycling has been processing the City of Omaha’s recyclables since 2006. In Nov., 2020, the City of Omaha issued all households large carts, with lids, for homeowners to collect their recycling, with the anticipation that this would encourage people to recycle even more of their household waste.
Patrick Leahy, CEO of First Star Recycling, will be giving us an update on recycling in Omaha. We wanted to know how Omaha’s collection rates have changed over the past four years, since the addition of the yard waste carts. We’d like to hear what recycling markets are like today, and how they have changed over time. And we also want to learn about some of the changes First Star has made in their processing of materials, including accepting the Hefty Energy Bags to be processed into pellets for plastic lumber.
