On Wednesday April 2nd 2025, Institutional Green will celebrate the release of _Deep Pockets_ at the beloved Schooner Tavern in Minneapolis. For this live performance, Institutional Green will be co-billing with terrific friends of the band and tremendous local original rock colleagues Annie and the Bang Bang.Institutional Green’s debut release _Deep Pockets_ is a 10 song record-yes we’re pressing vinyl, and will have records available for purchase!-featuring songs composed in & during the aftermath of the COVID Pandemic. The recordings are full of space and clarity with plenty of aural territory showcasing Dankert’s imaginative-dare we say, deep pocketed-beats & superb complementary vocals; Henretta’s lyrical guitar melodies & sweeping slide work; Leary’s midwestern-soul vocal delivery & thumping melodic bass lines.
The tracks are catchy while not sounding overly familiar or formulaic. Subjects addressed in these songs range widely from a tribute to two heroic local live music superfans named Paul, to the imagined considerations of a pre-columbian temple administrator in central america, to the somewhat more mundane challenges presented when restarting life after a long long quarantine. Not the usual fare for the lyrical content of a rock record, yet charming, funny, occasionally surprising and always genuine. _Deep Pockets_ pulls from the best aspects of Minnesota’s original rock tradition known for bringing a listener someplace new & unconsidered without an alienating trek through a neoteric kaleidoscope.
