About this Event
For many people, trauma creates a painful disconnection from the body. It can leave you feeling estranged from yourself, uncertain of your physical sensations, or even unsafe in your own skin. This class is about gently rebuilding that connection, creating a bridge back to your body through curiosity, compassion, and empowerment.
We’ll explore how trauma impacts your relationship with your physical self, including how it can alter your perception of sensations, trigger discomfort or numbness, and make it difficult to trust your body’s signals. By understanding these patterns, you can begin to reclaim your sense of agency and safety.
Through guided somatic practices, you’ll learn to reconnect with your body in small, manageable steps. We’ll use breathwork, mindfulness, and gentle movement to help you feel present and grounded. We’ll also discuss how to create a “safe space” within your body, a mental and physical sanctuary where you can start to rebuild trust and rediscover comfort in your own skin.
This class is a compassionate, hands-on approach to rediscovering the body’s potential for safety, sensation, and pleasure.
What you’ll gain from this class:
- An understanding of how trauma disrupts body awareness and trust in physical sensations.
- Practical somatic tools like breathwork and movement to reconnect with your body.
- Mindfulness techniques to help you stay present and regulate challenging sensations.
- The foundation to rebuild a positive, safe relationship with your physical self.
Note: This is the second class in the “Moving Through Trauma to Achieve Pleasure in Sex, Relationships, and Life” 5-class series. Each class stands alone, but together they create a powerful pathway to healing and growth.
Your Instructor
Marissa Zumbo (HSET, CSE) is sex educator and intimacy coach. After her own healing journey following a sexual assault, she realized how ill-equipped most people are to address sexual roadblocks. This realization led her to become a certified sex educator, life coach, and trauma-informed practitioner. Her training also includes somatic EMDR, breathwork, gender & sexuality, kink/BDSM, crisis counseling, and group facilitation. Overall, she specializes in helping individuals heal, rediscover their sexuality, and embrace joy.
Through her work, she empowers people to deepen their relationships with their bodies, develop self-compassion, and live pleasure-filled lives. Her mission is to guide those on a path of healing and self-discovery to cultivate greater awareness and authenticity in their sexuality and relationships.
