Headspace for the busy-brained! A six-week course to learn & practise body-based techniques for increased attention, clarity, and awareness.
About this Event

Life is busy! Urban environments can feel overwhelming for the senses; we can feel bombarded by information, and struggle to keep ourselves focused and stress-free. This can affect our mental wellbeing and our relationships and connections with others.

Bringing awareness to the present moment - mindfulness - can help us reclaim our focus, regulate our nervous systems, and understand ourselves better. Mindfulness practice helps create space, insight, and clarity.

Reclaiming Our Focus is a set of low-cost in-person group sessions to develop and practise body- and breath-based mindfulness techniques.

Practising these simple techniques often has a positive effect on the people around us too, as we can develop more compassion towards ourselves and others, and become more responsive rather than reactive.

Session content:

  • check-in
  • short talk on the weekly theme
  • guided mindfulness practices
  • small group reflection
  • check-out

Themes include stress, kindness, the senses, shared experience in both silence and words.

These sessions are specifically for neurodivergent people - an invitation to come as we are, in supportive community. Movement, requests for clarity etc are welcome. We will keep to time.

Venue:

The sessions are at Safe Art Cafe (nearest bus stop: Royal Sussex County Hospital). Please arrive at 6pm if you would like to buy a delicious hot drink (teas, coffee, cacao) before the session begins at 6:15pm. We finish at 7:15pm. (NB: apologies, but the venue is not fully accessible as it has two small steps into the building.)

Mindfulness facilitator:

The sessions are facilitated by Bela Emerson (she/they), a neurodivergent student of Christopher Titmuss & Nshorna Davis (www.anengagedlife.org). Bela is also a community musician in healthcare, Action Learning Set facilitator, cuddle therapist, and cellist.

Cost & commitment:

The sessions are £8/£6 concessions. The sessions are on weekly Wednesdays, 6th May - 17th June (NB: no session 20th May). If you wish to book for the whole six-week set, a reduction (£30 total) can be offered if paid in advance of the first session. Please email Bela if you wish to do this: [email protected]
