Guest Speaker: Steven Burge

Steven J. Burge is an actor and educator who landed in Denver following national tours of …And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank and A Christmas Carol. His varied career has yielded him the opportunity to work with Broadway veteran, Ray Roderick; stars of stages and screens, Wesley Taylor (SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical, NBC's “Smash”), Christine Elise McCarthy (“Beverly Hills 90210," “Child’s Play 2”); and Emmy Award-winning choreographer, Mandy Moore (“So You Think You Can Dance," “La La Land”).

Featured Musician: Michael Stanwood

Stanwood is a five-time winner of Westword's Best of Denver for everything from his recordings to his performances. He has composed scores for dance, theater and film as well as for three critically acclaimed recordings. He has produced multi-media events for The Denver Zoo (Animal Communiqué) and The Denver Museum of Nature and Science (The Circle of Life).

He has toured throughout Southeast Asia as a musical goodwill ambassador for the U.S. Information Service. Michael now plays a variety of ethnic instruments like the didjeridu, the Thai khaen, and the mbira, as well as the guitar. First Place winner in the 2012 International Autoharp Championship, he is considered one of the finest autoharp players in America today, and he has played that instrument with orchestras and solo....as well as with numerous bands.

He also leads the highly acclaimed Buzz Band, a group of nine musicians who play ethnic instruments. His CDs, Arc of a Buzz and Portal, have received rave reviews.

Based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Althea Center will require masks to be worn at all times while indoors beginning Sunday, August 1st.

Sunday lunches have been postponed until further notice. Coffee and Tea may be enjoyed outdoors after service.

While each Althean may have opinions about the current state of the pandemic, let us do our very best to keep our thoughts, feelings, and prayers focused positively and with love and compassion for each other, the ill and their families, and those working tirelessly day after day to care for people who are sick.

The board made these decisions with a safety of everyone's Health utmost in our minds, and we will continue to modify our policies based on regional and national recommendations.
