About this Event

Lettering and Stamping on Tumbled Marble Tiles

Come join us for a few hours of fun as we create these delightful little decorated tumbled marble tiles (2 per person)! These 4" x 4" tiles can be used as coasters or stand-alone art pieces. And they're great as little gifts or stocking stuffers for the holidays.

You will do a few simple lettering exercises and use stamps and colored pencils as embellishments. The tiles will then be sealed and can be used year after year with no scratching or damage.

***Materials are included in the fee for the workshop.

***This workshop will be held in the Chicago Rebuilding Exchange Lion's Den.

About the Instructor

Julie Wildman is a graphic designer, lettering artist and instructor. Her studio is in northwest Indiana, only 30 minutes from downtown Chicago.

She has been a graphic designer for over 30 years, and a lettering artist and instructor for over 20 years. Her lettering work has been exhibited in juried shows throughout the Midwest and the U.S., including the Newberry Library in Chicago.

In 2007 and 2014, her pieces “Psalm 117” and “An Alphabet Book,” respectively, won the Newberry’s Purchase Prize Award and became a part of the Library’s permanent collection. Her work has also been published in several design magazines including Communication Arts Design Annual #59, as well as many issues of Letter Arts Review, a publication featuring the works of accomplished lettering artists from around the world.

She loves line, shape, color, texture, paper, ink, and paint and often can’t believe she gets to play with them for a living! She enthusiastically shares her love of “beautiful writing” with young and old by teaching calligraphy for staff development classes, on-site promotional events, community programs and personal growth workshops throughout the Chicagoland area, U.S., and Canada. And now with Zoom classes, she has taught students from more than 20 countries around the world.

STUDENT SAFETY DURING COVID

Your safety is our highest priority at Rebuilding Exchange, so we have put safety protocols in place for all of our in-person workshops to keep everyone safe. Those protocols are:

  • Reduced class sizes (no more than 8 participants in a class).
  • All instructors, assistants, and participants will be required to wear masks while attending workshops (we do not have enough masks to provide to everyone, so you will be required to provide your own mask).
  • Instructors and participants may be required to have their temperature taken (using a touchless thermometer) prior to the start of the class.
  • Social distancing will be implemented when possible and appropriate.
  • Breaks will be provided during the class for handwashing.
  • Everyone should follow recommended safety precautions, such as coughing into your elbow and refraining from touching their face.
  • All of the tools, equipment, door handles, cabinet and drawer handles, etc. that are touched will be disinfected both before and after the workshop.

Workshop Policies: Please review policies below before committing to a workshop.

  • If Rebuilding Exchange needs to cancel a workshop, we will notify you 24 before the class and give you the option of refund or reschedule;
