Recital of Music for Voice, Clarinet/oboe, and Piano

Westport Center for the Arts’ 2022-23 Noontime Concert Series continues March 24 with a free chamber music recital. Lyric soprano Eva Peng and pianist Anthony Olson will be joined by oboist Joseph Michael Tomasso for a unique program including works by JS Bach, Louis Spohr, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. The noontime concerts are free (donations accepted) and held in the sanctuary at the Westport Presbyterian Church, 201 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111.

Eva Peng served as resident soprano soloist for the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for many years before immigrating to the United States. Since then, she has appeared in numerous recitals and concerts. An active educator, she has taught as an adjunct voice instructor at Northwest Missouri State University and Northcentral Missouri College. She is now a freelance musician and teaches in her private studio in the Northland area of Kansas City.

Anthony Olson is Professor of Music (piano, organ, and harpsichord) at Northwest Missouri State University. He has also taught as a guest professor at Imperial College, London, Kyunbuk University, South Korea, and the Roosevelt Academy, in Middelburg, The Netherlands. He has published articles in the Piano Journal, American Music Teacher, and Clavier Companion.

Dr. Joseph Michael Tomasso, assistant professor, joined the faculty at Northwest Missouri State in the fall of 2017 where he teaches applied reeds, chamber music, and music theory. He has performed in Brazil, France, Italy, and The Netherlands as both a soloist and a touring member of the American Chamber Winds. He maintains an active performance relationship with the Topeka Symphony, Springfield Symphony, and Saint Joseph Symphony. Additionally Tomasso was the first American to win the Associazione Giovani Musicale (AGIMUST) International Music Competition in Padova Italy (2011).
