Rebozo is a traditional, ancient Mexican healing treatment, using a cotton scarf to cinch the body tightly at different intervals while the woman lies on her back. This is often done after birth to help realign the body, close the pelvic bones and call in the woman’s energy but it also has a tremendously calming and soothing effect on anyone experiencing anxiety or grief, a major transition, or the beginning or end of a cycle in their lives. The feeling of being swaddled is something not experienced since we were infants. It is a profoundly comforting experience and returns our energies to the center of our physical, emotional and spiritual bodies. There are two basic parts of the experience: the wrapping and tightening to reassure, embrace, and enclose and then a gentle rocking of the body to open and relax. Traditional songs are sung at the end of the treatment, the participants are smudged with copal, and each woman is presented with a gift of cotton rebozo (scarf).
This workshop is presented by Yaël Flauder, a French assistant midwife and Waldorf teacher who lives and practices in San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico. She is deeply immersed in subjects such as temescal (the Mexican form of sweat lodge), indigenous herbalism, cacao ceremonies, shamanic ceremonies and songs, birthing traditions, massage techniques and rites of passage. She has integrated this knowledge into her practice and for the past several years has been teaching throughout France, Belgium and Switzerland.
