A monthly Greek night in the attic of De Richel with live rebetika music, lovely Greek food by Dina and of course ouzo and raki!
Rebetika is Greek urban music, with its heyday in the 1930’s. Originating from the Greek communities of Asia Minor (Turkey) it mixes Anatolian and Eastern roots with Western influences. It was the music of the poor refugees from Turkey, living in the shanty towns of Athens and Pireaus, and it was a way of reminiscing their abandoned hometowns. It was the music of the underground, telling stories about petty thieves, feuds, drugs, love and poverty. Some call the lyrics a form of gangster rap avant-la-lettre, others see in it a description of daily life filled with hardships and sorrow on the fringes of society. Trio Harmani plays songs spanning all of rebetiko's history, from underground refugee music in the 1930’s to the more bohemian and socially accepted style of the 1950’s.
Pelagia Tsiachri Renta (voice, percussion) hails from a village in Northern Greece. She studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory and performs across Europe in a wide range of styles, including Rebetiko, Greek traditional music, Laïkó, and Greek and Turkish folk music.
Thomas Huisman (bouzouki, voice) was born in Rotterdam and got hooked on rebetika during an Erasmus exchange in Thessaloniki. He plays in various formations both in the Netherlands as in Greece.
Dimitris Tsiotas (guitar, voice) is from Athens and studies jazz guitar at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He’s also been playing rebetika for years, both on bouzouki and on guitar.

Μια μηναία ελληνική βραδιά στη σοφίτα του De Richel με ζωντανή μουσική, νοστιμότατο σπιτικό φαγητό και φυσικά ούζο και τσίπουρο!
Πελαγία Τσιαχρή Ρέντα (φωνή, κρουστά) κατάγεται από ένα χωριό της Βόρειας Ελλάδας. Σπούδασε στο Codarts University of the Arts στο Ρότερνταμ και έκτοτε έχει ενεργή παρουσία σε μουσικές σκηνές της Ευρώπης, ερμηνεύοντας ένα ευρύ φάσμα μουσικών ειδών, όπως το ρεμπέτικο, η ελληνική παραδοσιακή μουσική, το λαϊκό, καθώς και ελληνική και τουρκική φολκ μουσική.
Thomas Huisman (μπουζούκι, τραγούδι) γεννήθηκε στο Ροτερντάμ και πλανεύτηκε από τα ρεμπέτικα σε ανταλλαγή φοιτητών Εράσμους στην Θεσσαλονίκη. Παίζει σε διάφορα σχήματα με εμφανίσεις στην Ολλανδία και στην Ελλάδα.
Δημήτρης Τσιώτας (κιθάρα, τραγούδι) είναι από την Αθήνα και σπούδασε τζαζ κιθάρα στο κονσερβατόριο του Αμστερντάμ. Επίσης παίζει χρόνια ρεμπέτικα, στο μπουζούκι και στην κιθάρα.
