Rebellious Words - A poetry zine making workshop
About this Event
A poetry zine is a tiny act of self-publishing: a place for sharp thoughts, soft confessions, beautiful rage, private jokes, inconvenient truths, strange images and the parts of ourselves we are often taught to make smaller.
In this two-hour Guerrilla Poetry workshop, poet and collage artist Rowan Taigel will invite you to cut, write, tear, layer, rearrange, make space for contradiction - and make a handmade poetry zine that refuses to behave like a tidy little craft project.
A zine (pronounced ‘zeen’) is a small handmade place for the thoughts that do not fit neatly into the version of the world we have been handed: beautiful rage and ordinary tenderness; difficult questions and private jokes; grief and glamour; politics and pleasure; softness and refusal.
This is for people who are drawn to art, language, DIY culture and creative expression. For anyone who has ever been called too much, too intense, too sensitive, too political, too imaginative, or simply “extra” - but may need someone to hand them the scissors and say: start here.
Come and make a tiny publication with people who also see the cracks in the story and feel compelled to write in them. Something interesting is bound to happen.
No experience is needed. Bring your curiosity, your opinions, and any feelings that might benefit from becoming art.
Leave with your own handmade poetry zine: clever, strange, beautiful, defiant, or all four.
