Rebel Royalty Chess - Beginners

Rebel chess for beginners is in-person chess class centered around teaching fundamental skills to players new to the game, there is no age limit, in Virginia Beach. Players will learn how each piece moves, its value, its "superpower" as well as basic openings and checkmate patterns. Each session will feature 1- 2 pieces, puzzles to solve and game play. They will understand how to apply "mini game" skills to game play while exercising critical thinking, mathematical comparison and a little reading and writing! All materials will be provided and we will have a tournament at the end of the season!

My name is Lina Matos Ragin and I am a former educator and administrator. Before I jumped into the classroom, I taught and coached chess in NYC public and charter schools. My classes began in kindergarten and went through 8th grade. I have seen so many success stories from students who gained confidence in themselves, an increase in patience and respect amongst peers, and an increase in academic stamina and focus. I am happy to be able to offer chess as an outlet, and look forward to meeting you and your family!
