Join us for RBC's August event as we explore contemporary China through Yuan Yang's compelling book "Private Revolutions."
About this Event

Welcome to the RBC Edinburgh event, where we'll be diving into August's theme, China, through this month's read, , by Yuan Yang.

Yuan Yang, the first Chinese-born British MP, tells the stories of four Chinese women striving for a better future in an unequal society. From June, who dreams of going to university rather than raising pigs, to Sam, forced into hiding as her activist peers are lifted from the streets, this is a singularly immersive portrait of a rapidly changing nation - and of the courage of those caught in the swell.

Why we chose it: “A revelatory, moving and tender tale of hopes, fears and change. A real eye-opener about life in contemporary China" - Peter Frankopan

Inspired by our monthly non-fiction reads, our mix of part cocktail party, part creative classroom is a recipe that builds your reading habit while connecting with like minded people.

Delicious drinks are included, as well as engaging storytelling and space for conversations and sharing your own journeys across countries and continents.

Interested? Want to join us at our August event?

Try out the club with Eventbrite - new customers only. Ticket price includes access to the Edinburgh Rebel Book Club event plus a welcome drink (alcoholic + non-alcoholic options available).

Your host for the evening

Bryn Sherwood

Longtime RBC member and globetrotter, Bryn now wants to bring Rebel Book Club to his new found home. Balancing a love of the great outdoors, his springer spaniel and proper whiskey (alongside all-important books of course), he's looking forward to growing the non-fiction community in Scotland.

Biggest RBC learning: "So many to choose from. It has helped me inform my world view about universal basic income, reducing plastic, becoming vegetarian and designing your life to name just a few!"
