About the Speaker
Writer and historian Rebecca Solnit has written more than 25 books on walking, western history, catastrophe, feminism, and hope. A Guggenheim fellow and winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, she is the author of Men Explain Things to Me and A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities that Arise in Disaster. She writes regularly for Harper’s and The Guardian.

The Dai Ho Chun Distinguished Chair was established at the UH Foundation by the late Dr. Dai Ho Chun. Rebecca Solnit is the fall 2025 Dai Ho Chun chair in the College of Arts, Languages & Letters.
