About this Event
Invitation to the Realist Women Study Luncheon at the University of Miami Miller School!
In honor of World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th), National Women's Health and Fitness Day (September 25th), and World Heart Day (September 29th), you are cordially invited to attend the Realist Women Study Luncheon on Friday, September 27th, 2024, from noon to 2:00 PM at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Don Soffer Clinical Research Building, CTSI-Room-710.
This hybrid event (via Zoom and on-site) will introduce the NIH-funded Realist Women Study (NCT06544902), led by Dr. Judite Blanc. The study explores whether a virtual reality (VR) program can help Black women manage stress and improve heart health. Black women face a higher rate of heart disease risk factors, such as high blood pressure, compared to white women. Additionally, they are more likely to experience poor sleep, which can exacerbate these risks. These challenges are often intensified by multiple layers of stress, including financial strain, caregiving responsibilities, and experiences of racial and gender discrimination.
The luncheon will also feature an art exhibit by painter Sandrah Chalmers, hosted by Dr. Judite Blanc, an international expert in biobehavioral and women’s health. This gathering is open to everyone interested in women’s health, including patients, patient advocates, community organizers, health equity champions, healthcare professionals, and researchers, to raise awareness about these critical health issues. Reserve your on-site slots today—first come, first served!
The agenda will be posted soon.
