'Real World Research' Workshop at David Game Higher Education

Are you a researcher? Yes, you are. These days, we all are. But are you sure that the information you rely on to form you opinions and make decisions is accurate? How can you be more confident when you do your own research?

Our academic tutors and Librarian at DGHE invite members of our local community onto our campus for a free research skills workshop. Get a taste of higher education. Equip yourself with useful online research tips and strategies! We will cover topics such as:

• Improve your sources: Learn where to look for authoritative, quality information online.
• Disinformation vs. Misinformation: Understand the differences and learn how to identify both.
• Fake News: Explore the impact of 'fake news' in contemporary media.
• Bias Awareness: Learn to recognise bias in resources and in your own perspectives.

Going Beyond Google

Discover alternative methods to locate high-quality information through publicly available, Open Access databases and alternative search engines. The workshop shares effective search strategies, including how to ‘talk’ to a database in a language it understands.

Ethics and AI

Understand the ethics of AI in research and information dissemination.

Personal and Professional Applications of Research

Learn how to critically evaluate information, which you need to make informed decisions in daily life. Improve your performance at work too by conducting more thorough and reliable , understanding arguments, and strengthening your skills in report writing and strategic planning.

We’ll have some fun doing some research of our own and chatting with other workshop participants about what we learn.
