Join us to learn more about Real Stories and the Library of Experiences!
Project History:
Real Stories is a traveling art installation and spoken-word series amplifying the voices of youth and college students facing homelessness and basic-needs insecurities. Drawing inspiration from the stories, engagements, and council of our student champions, each installation captures their collective courage, creativity, and resilience.
This year, we’re transforming Real Stories into an outdoor public experience in partnership with Amphibian Stage for this year’s Spark Fest. This new direction will allow us to create a public third space right here in the heart of Near Southsides Micro Park. It will serve as a place where students can be their authentic selves and share inspiring stories to raise awareness and understanding to the unique challenges they face, and the extents of their personal perseverance. Through these stories and experiences, we hope to humanize this critical topic and spark the change needed to bring resolution.
The Library of Experiences:
Grounded in raising the collective awareness on homelessness and near homelessness, The Library of Experiences collects the stories, experiences, and personal alignments to bridge the divide between our struggles and moments of celebration.
Inspired by Japanese Shinto Shrines and the Ema Cards used to submit prayer request, The Library of Experiences aims to elicit an emotional response from patrons as stories are shared and absorbed. It offers reassurance amid adversity, highlighting our personal human support networks. It is a subtle reminder that we are not alone, and that our problems are not always unique to just us.
Our Ask:
We invite you to an open display of the installation to celebrate this new chapter of Real Stories. Join us to learn more about our efforts to raise awareness towards college homelessness. Come and make a contribution to the Library by sharing a meaningful story, alignment, or words of empathy to bring hope and understanding to this critical topic.
