The cast of Briar Patch premiering at the Midtown International Theatre Festival will be performing a reading of the play at The Wrens Nest on Saturday, July 18th.

IN THE BRIAR PATCH OF LIFE, EVERY TRUTH HAS THORNS
In Briar PatchThe town pastor of Eatonton Georgia seeks to reconnect with his son by putting on a play about Joel Chandler Harris, the town's most famous citizen (author of the Br'er Rabbit stories). The project sparks conflict over race, identity, and the cost of confronting the past. Briar Patch explores the theme of judging character and value by outward appearance, and how we can hurt ourselves and each other when we only take a surface look.
This play has grown out of my work as a playwright at Kennesaw State University. The first reading of this play was in March of 2026, and then, it was further developed when a group of KSU students performed a reading of this play at the 2026 Next Steps Theatre Festival.
This same cast will be performing the world premiere of this play at The Midtown International Theatre Festival in New York City on We: dnesday, July 22nd at 8:15 pm, Thursday, July 23rd at 8:15 pm, and Sunday, July 26th at 6:30 pm.
This event is to promote the play and help raise money for the play and students' travel to NYC.
