Reading Black Beyond Feburary

Join P&P and DC's top Bookstagrammers to celebrate Black History Month with fantastic reads. Influencers @prettylittlebookshelf, @danzibooks, and @hawa.reads will be in conversation with Glory Edim of @wellreadblackgirl to discuss the importance of diversifying your bookshelf and offer recommendations for some of their favorite Black-authored books.

Morgan, (aka @prettylittlebookshelf) is a book influencer prioritizing books written by authors of color. A New Jersey native, currently living in Maryland. In addition to reviewing books, Morgan hosts a monthly virtual book club. Her autobuy authors include Jacqueline Woodson, Bernice McFadden, and Tiffany D. Jackson. Danielle (@danzibooks) is an own voices bookstagrammer born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and currently living in Washington, DC. An avid reader of science fiction and fantasy books, she particularly champions stories by Black authors. Her favorite authors include N.E. Davenport, Evan Winter, and the great N.K. Jemisin.

Hawa (@hawa.reads) is a book influencer, librarian, and Maryland native. Roxane Gay and Jesmyn Ward are two of her favorite authors. Her most anticipated title of 2023 is Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo. When she's not reading, she spends her time collecting records and attending concerts.

Glory Edim (@wellreadblackgirl) is an author, activist, and the founder of Well-Read Black Girl, a nationwide book club-turned-literacy non-profit that celebrates the life changing power of literature. Well-Read Black Girl’s mission is to use literature as a tool for advocacy and collective empowerment. Glory has won numerous awards for her work supporting and sustaining literature, including the 2017 Innovator’s Award from the Los Angeles Times Book Prizes and the Madam C.J. Walker Award from the Hurston/Wright Foundation. She also serves on the board of Baldwin for the Arts. Her best-selling anthology, Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves, was published by Penguin Random House in 2018. She is currently working on a memoir that explores the intimate relationship between reading and self-healing. She resides in Washington D.C. with her son, Zik.
