About this Event

Come and join us for an exciting, practical workshop with author Jasmine Florentine! Jasmine will read scenes from her graphic novel, Maker Girl and Professor Smarts before showing you how to build your own grappling hook, featured in the novel. Learn how to use your brains and knowledge to battle evil!

Two kid heroes use brains and elbow grease to face off supervillains with hilarious powers in this all-new STEM graphic novel series from MIT Kids Press.

Ever since a comet hit Earth, New Bork City has been overrun with supervillains! Luckily, Maker Girl – who can make just about anything – and Professor Smarts – the sharpest kid on the block – are here to put a stop to them. They may not have superpowers of their own, but with the powers of science and engineering, they are more than a match for Mr Anti-Freeze, who's bent on destroying all ice cream, and Queen Ka-Ching, who kidnaps the heroes and brings them to her evil lair...

Jasmine Florentine is an author and illustrator who is passionate about using creative approaches to engage kids with science. After receiving a master’s degree from MIT in mechanical engineering, she worked as a mechatronics engineer at a robotics company and an engineer and artist for FIRST, a nonprofit that runs robotics competitions to inspire students to pursue STEM. Her debut novel, Hex Allen and the Clanksmiths, was released in 2022. When she is not building robots, drawing cartoons, or championing STEM, Jasmine Florentine loves hiking and rambling at length about her current favorite book, usually at the same time. She lives in the UK with her family.

All materials will be provided as well as refreshments for the children.

This event is recommended for children ages 7-11. Tickets are £4 per child, or £16 including a copy of the book (RRP £12.99). Parents/carers can accompany children for free.
