It's here! 2023 Gallery Grant winner Felicity Houston Thomas's exhibit of their original songwriting inspired by their grandfather's photography takes over The Gallery this May. This is a very special project rich with Geneseo goodness and we are so excited to share it with you.
Felicity is a singer/songwriter based in Geneseo, NY. They are an alumnus of Geneseo Central School and Nazareth University with a BFA in Musical Theater.
Felicity's grandfather, Dante Thomas, was an English professor at SUNY Geneseo for 45 years. He was a true renaissance man and an especially talented nature photographer. His collection, taken on 35mm film, was then self-developed in his at-home dark room. He passed away in 2013 surrounded by his loved ones.
Fast forward to today, Felicity is putting the final touches on a project to bridge the creations of their grandfather with their own musical talents. They've selected a collection of their grandfather's photographs and written and recorded songs inspired by each one.
At this event, you'll get to experience the culmination of this work: Felicity will bring together the photography and song lyrics on our visiting artist wall. We'll sip and snack and get a peek at the works from 6-8pm and then we'll head down to Drumroll Stage and Sushipub around 8pm where Felicity will perform a handful of the songs from the album. You'll also get to pre-order the album on vinyl, which will be pressed later this year.
We hope you'll join us to enjoy this deeply historical and artistic body of work from two Geneseo natives, a beautiful collaboration through space and time.
