RE-DESIGN. REGENERATING SPACES, OBJECTS, IDEAS, RELATIONS.

As part of Lisbon Design Week, the Embassy of Italy in Lisbon is pleased to present this event, hosted by Fundação EDP at the MAAT - Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, within the framework of The Italian Design Day (IDD) 2026.

Promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) together with the Ministry of Culture, Italian Design Day reaches its tenth edition in 2026 and is supported by leading institutions such as ADI, Triennale Milano and Salone del Mobile.Milano. Through a global programme of events and international "ambassadors", the initiative promotes Italian design as a cultural and economic excellence worldwide.

The 2026 edition explores the theme “RE-DESIGN. Regenerating spaces, objects, ideas, relations”, reflecting on the role of architecture and design in shaping more sustainable, inclusive and innovative ways of living.

The conversation features architects Mario Cucinella, founder of MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects (1992) and SOS – School of Sustainability (2015), Fellow of RIBA and AIA, curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 2018 Venice Biennale and Expo 2025 Osaka, and recipient of the 2024 Compasso d’Oro, and Andreia Garcia, architect, curator and professor whose practice spans design, research and ecology, founder of Architectural Affairs and Galeria de Arquitectura, and curator of major international projects including the Portuguese Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Biennale and Expo Osaka 2025, with upcoming curatorship of the 2027 Tirana Architecture Triennale.

Together, they will discuss how architecture and design can contribute to the regeneration of contemporary spaces and systems, from urban regeneration to circular design practices, highlighting sustainability, inclusion and innovation. The dialogue also explores material reuse, lifecycle thinking and the role of cities as living laboratories for transformation, drawing on the Italian experience in design and architecture.

Bringing together architects, designers and creatives, this event fosters dialogue, reflection and new perspectives on the future of design and architecture.
