Re-Create and Upcycle Workshop
About this Event
Give old garments new life while mastering the basics of sewing! In this hands-on upcycling workshop, you will transform 2–3 pieces of unused clothing into a stylish, one-of-a-kind tote bag based on the popular Pecan Patchwork Bag pattern from the Mood Sewciety blog.
Designed for beginner sewists and sustainable fashion enthusiasts, this class walks you through the entire creative process—from deconstructing old clothes and cutting patchwork pieces to constructing a fully lined bag complete with handles and hardware. Join us to build foundational machine skills, explore eco-friendly crafting, and walk away with a functional, custom tote made by you.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Beginner Sewing Setup: Get comfortable with machine operation, threading, bobbin setup, and straight stitching.
- Garment Deconstruction: Safely take apart your clothing pieces and prepare reclaimed fabric for your pattern.
- Patchwork Design: Cut, arrange, and piece together your fabrics to map out your unique Pecan Bag design.
- Tote Construction: Assemble your patchwork, sew the main bag body, and add a lining.
- Finishing Touches: Attach handles, install magnetic snaps, and complete your custom bag.
