About this Event
RE-AWAKEN DORMANCY
Dormancy is Adaptation, Dormancy is Survival, Dormancy is Evolution
Dormancy is a reversible state of suspended or significantly reduced metabolic activity, growth, and development that enables organisms to survive unfavorable environmental conditions. It is an evolutionary adaptation, particularly prevalent in regions with marked seasonal changes (cold winters or dry seasons), allowing plants, seeds, and animals to "wait out" stress and conserve energy.
When have you been dormant? What feels dormant inside you now? As spring arrives, what do we want to unfreeze and reawaken in ourselves? In others? As a community? And what do we want to keep sleeping, instead?
Join Kelly Mullins and Jamie Rhiannon Fehribach for an exploration in the value of waiting, the action in inaction, and the intentional process of lying dormant.
Together, we will practice writing poetry using nature to help us tell our stories, including:
- Collective reflection
- Writing prompts around connecting words to nature
- Reflections on flora and fauna
This workshop is designed for poets & newbies alike! If you don't consider yourself a writer, this workshop is still for you - we will walk you through the basics to get your creativity flowing.
This is a community-gifted (free) event. Spaces are limited, reserve your spot on Eventbrite.
Joined one of our workshops before? This one has brand new prompts un-freezing!
