‘Mad Science’ Cinema Program Curator's pick of the week, 'Re-Animator' 1985 MA15+ selected by Rosie Hayes, Australian Cinémathèque, QAGOMA.Oddball Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs), new to medical school, involves fellow classmate Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) in a series of bizarre experiments concerning the re-animation of dead tissue, with the ambition to bring deceased humans back to life. Notable for its practical special effects, satirical takes on Frankenstein-ian tropes, and mixture of sincere B-picture frights and laughs, this is an audacious and grotesque work that boldly confronts the limits of the human body.
