About this Event

The purpose of this workshop is to train and equip participants to identify a federal opportunity and apply for an SBIR/STTR.


Objectives for the participants include

  • Creating a competitive SBIR or STTR application
  • Identifying the agencies or department (s) most aligned with the participant’s commercial glide path
  • Understanding pre and post-application requirements


Workshop I - October 5th, 12-3PM
  • How to create a budget (including calculating fringe, indirect rates, G&A, and profit)
  • Establishing credible timekeeping and expense tracking
  • Communicating changes with your Program Manager


Workshop II - October 6th, 12-2 PM
  • Setting up a CAGE, DUNS, SAMS number
  • How to invoice
  • Tips/structure for writing a Technical Volume and Commercialization plan
  • Differences between agencies/departments


About the Speakers
is an Officer in the Air National Guard & the CEO for re:3D where she facilitates connections between others printing at the human-scale and/or using recycled materials to access locally driven manufacturing in 50+ countries. A serial entrepreneur, she volunteers as the Global Chair of the IEEE Entrepreneurship Steering Committee.
Previously, she served as the Social Entrepreneur in Residence for the NASA HQ & Deputy Strategist supporting the NASA Johnson Space Center’s Space Life Sciences Directorate after selling a start-up for a DARPA-funded, co-patented tissue culture device. Samantha holds a BS in Biology, BA degrees in International Relations & Hispanic Studies, a MBA with concentrations in Supply Chain Management & International Relations, and certifications as a firefighter & EMT-B.

is Co-Founder and Head of Technology for re:3D Inc with 20 years of experience in manufacturing and engineering. In 2013 he created Gigabot, the world’s largest affordable industrial 3D printer, and co-founded re:3D Inc which has grown to 20 employees serving customers in more than 50 countries. His educational foundation includes receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of Nebraska in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering.
Matthew’s previous experience includes designing and conducting research experiments as part of the Biomechanics Laboratory at the NASA Johnson Space Center with the focus of mitigating the negative effects of space flight on astronaut crewmembers. Matthew’s publications in Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering and Additive Manufacturing includes 20 original articles in peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings and NASA Technical and Special Reports in addition to being an NSF SBIR reviewer in 2017 and reviewing for the 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Journal. Matthew’s current focus is democratizing Additive Manufacturing and allowing people to solve problems with the use of human scale 3D printing.
